The bit people often forget is everything around the website. Email accounts, DNS records, subdomains, scheduled tasks and third-party services may also depend on the old hosting setup. That is why we prefer to understand a migration before changing anything.

A well-planned migration keeps the old service running while the new copy is prepared and tested. Once the switch is made, the old hosting should normally stay available for a short period while DNS changes propagate and the new setup is checked.
